Newton Plans Unity Day Celebration Sunday

NEWTON, NC – Mark your calendar for this Sunday, February 7, as the City of Newton and its Human Relations Council will present the 2010 Unity Day Celebration.

The annual celebration will begin at 3:00 pm at the Newton-Conover Auditorium, located at 60 West 6th Street. Admission is free. The program should last approximately one hour, followed by a time of fellowship while sampling a variety of American and international foods in the nearby cafeteria.

Presentation of the Unity Day Award, “Parade of Flags,” special entertainment, children’s art contest, food, and fellowship will highlight the celebration. Confirmed entertainment includes the St. Paul Methodist Men’s Choir; Raza Latina, a Hispanic dance group; the Startown Elementary School Chorus; and the Morning Star First Baptist Church Mass Choir and Youth Choir.

The theme for the 2010 Unity Day Celebration remains the same – “One Community, One Humanity.” The mission of the celebration is: to bring the communities of the City of Newton together in unity and love; to promote positive multi-cultural relations and harmony throughout the City; to bring everyone together by raising the public’s vision above barriers of color, culture, and creed; and to celebrate the value and respect for diversity through art, dance, music, and food.
