We Love The Weather

HICKORY, NC – While many found things to do indoors to stay dry and warm, some locals ventured out to enjoy the nearly foot of snow accumulated in the area.  Alyssa Stewart brought her sons out to sled.  They quickly caught the attention of nearby college students who joined in.

“I love the weather,” Stewart said.  “I have not seen this much since I was a student a Lenoir-Rhyne.  My boys have never seen snow like this,” she added.  She and her three sons took turns racing down the hill at Lenoir-Rhyne’s Admission office in Hickory.

LR student Caitlan Reese of Belmont said that she had never seen this much snow in her life.  “During the last storm, when it was snowing here, we only got rain in Belmont,” she said.  She joined Andrew Golden, Chase Tuttle and Josh Poole – other Lenoir-Rhyne students as they took turns racing with Stewart’s sons.

Poole said that it had been at least six years since he had seen anything similar to the storm that passed through Friday.  Poole is from Lincoln County, NC.  Other students from around Lenoir-Rhyne ventured out around campus to make snowmen, take photos or just have fun.

All of the folks we encountered said that they decided to find things to do around home, rather than risk getting out in their vehicles.  While interviewing Stewart & the LR students for this story, one driver spun out.  He was seen driving while talking on his cell phone.  Henry Stewart, Alyssa’s youngest son, asked his mom “Why are people driving when they aren’t suppose to?”  Everyone erupted in laughter.
